The first week of our 21 Days of Prayer have gone great! We had a 24-hour prayer focus on Tuesday/Wednesday that was just amazing, and we had a downtown prayer walk on Saturday morning where we prayed for our community in some very specific ways. THANK YOU to all who participated so far!
But it isn’t over yet! Our leaders have called us to 21 days of prayer, continuing through the end of the month. Would you join us? Here are three ways for you to be part of this important movement!
Personal Prayer/Reading Plan
Using the Bible App
We’re reading and praying together on a daily basis. You can join in with us this week using the reading plan in the Bible app, located here:
24 Hours of Prayer
Starts with a Prayer Service Tuesday at 7PM
All are invited to take part. Everyone is welcome at the prayer service, and anyone can sign up for an hour of prayer.
Prayer Ride
Saturday, July 25 at 8AM
We’ll ride to the Atlanta City Hall and the State Capitol, circling around the blocks where our state’s government business takes place. We are planning to stop and pray on site for our governor, and leaders. You don’t have to sign up for this one… Just meet us at the church parking lot by 8AM Saturday morning!
How will you and your group be involved in this important prayer movement?
There will be trouble
But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when you will be scattered, each one going his own way, leaving me alone. Yet I am not alone because the Father is with me. I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:32–33 (NLT)
Jesus tells us there will be trouble in this world. On Sunday, I talked about how we can view that trouble as a mess, or as a test…
It is an old saying… “Outlook determines outcome, and attitude determines action.”
Do you agree with this? In light of the way Jesus talks about trouble in this world, why is this important?
Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.
James 1:2–3 (ESV)
How does our attitude toward our circumstances change when we know that God is at work, doing something intentional in our lives?
Isn’t it great that we have a Great High Priest that identifies with our situations? Whatever we have been through, HE has been through! Seriously.. As bad as this world might be right now, he had it worse. Think about what he left to be here with us, and think about the ultimate plan, the cross.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV)
There is a LOT here in this short passage… What does it mean for Jesus to endure the cross “for the joy that was set before him?”
The Apostle Paul felt the same way, didn’t he…?
Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with him.
Philippians 3:8–9 (NLT)
What does this mean for our current circumstances? What does it mean for the difficulties in my life?
