Unpredictable

You know, it is a day like this one that makes me realize what a unique position we are in as a church… For our Sunday morning services to happen, a LOT of things have to occur in a specific order and within a very specific time frame!

Yesterday, we were thinking that things were going to be rough overnight. The drizzle continued late into the day, and temperatures were supposed to drop rapidly. People lined up in the stores, preparing for the worst. I consulted with Larry, who heads up our cleanup crew on Saturday nights at the theater. We were both a little nervous about road conditions for those guys who are mopping, cleaning, setting up, and taking care of us. They ususally work the theater until around 12:30 or 1AM.

Not to mention the fact that once all the staging, speakers, and tech stuff is all set up, the band has to arrive at around 7:30am to begin practice so they can be tuned and ready for the 9am service. Man, it is a lot of work, but we have a bunch of very dedicated, dilligent and loving people that PULL IT OFF week after week. THEY make Sunday mornings possible.

ON top of all that, Casey and Rachel are out of town again this week, and we had invited our friend Kevin Wilhite to come down from Fort Mountain to lead us in worship. Well, Fort Mountain apparently is topped with a pretty thick layer of ice, and he is trapped up there.

Someone had suggested that we do only the 10:45 service, which sounds like a great idea, except that all that midnight and early morning setup stuff still has to happen… and we just didn’t feel safe pulling it off.

SO, we made the call late yesterday afternoon, posting the news on the website, Facebook, our Twitter feed, and email. THEN, we woke up on Sunday morning finding clear skies, dry roads, and no problems. Seems like a bad decision, until I think about all the Saturday night stuff that goes into Sunday morning.

Ugh. It is a little frustrating. Man, I LOVE our Sunday morning worship services. I enjoy the music, the prayer times, and the fellowship with brothers and sisters. Most of all, I love seeing and hearing about how God is at work in and among us. Well, next week will work out better. We will worship together and celebrate all that God is doing. I hope you have a great week.
