[Podcast] I Am The Bread of Life

What could Jesus have possibly said to drive many of his own followers away?  What could he say to drive you away?

Lifegroup Discussion questions up next!!

If you are the group leader, have everyone open this page on their mobile device. Take turns reading, and asking questions.
“You are what you eat.” It is true physically, right? What about spiritually, emotionally, and mentally? The other three main components of who you are?

Proverbs 23:7 KJV
for as I think in my heart, so am I…

What are the things we feed on, and how do they feed our heart, soul, and mind?

  • Binge-watch?
  • Read?
  • Download, or stream?
  • Listen to?

The food we eat definitely affects our BIOS. Do you remember the definition of that Greek word?

How do these other things that we feed on affect our BIOS? How do they affect our ZOE?

Exodus 16:4, 15 ESV
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I am about to rain bread from heaven for you, and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, that I may test them, whether they will walk in my law or not. When the people of Israel saw it, they said to one another, “What is it?” For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, “It is the bread that the Lord has given you to eat.

What is the significance of the SOURCE of the “bread of heaven?”, as compared with the source of the other things we feed on?
While fasting in the wilderness, Jesus was tempted by Satan to feast on the things of the world. In response, Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3:

Deuteronomy 8:3
Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

How does this relate to BIOS and ZOE?

After the feeding of the 5000, Jesus and the disciples slipped away, but were soon found by the crowds of people. Jesus’ response to them was interesting:

John 6:26-29 ESV
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves.Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

What does Jesus’ “believe in him” statement mean for us? Do you think he is talking about simple faith here? Believing that Jesus is “sent” from God? Or, do you think there is something deeper here?

I think believing in him means that you actually believe that who he is, and what he does in us is better than anything the world has to offer… So how can we really believe in him, vs. believing in the things of this world this week?
