It’s Not A Septic Tank

Remember when the City of East Ellijay actually saved us a bunch of money when they made us redesign our water access? We were initially supposed to access the water line across Highland Crossing, but they redirected us to the road to our immediate west, Highland Valley Way. This will eliminate the very very costly need to drill through the granite under the road on Highland Crossing, and instead allow us to trench across the residential street. A much easier, less expensive process. It was the right move.

Well of course, there is a catch. Ian Duncan, our site superintendent and I were both away when they installed the water vault. It was SUPPOSED to be completely buried, but they hit granite right where it had to go. SO, they only partially buried it, and pushed a bunch of dirt up around it. It looks ridiculous. Like a septic tank right on the “nose” of our property. Our first foot forward.

Ian, Stacey (site contractor) and I walked around it on Thursday, April 17. Stacey explained that there was just nothing else they could do but have it sticking way up like that… Unless we blast more. A blasting permit here would be difficult, since it is so close to the road and utilities. It would require a lot, and cost a lot. IF we can even get the permit in the first place!

We all agreed that Stacey would smooth it all out as much as possible to make it look a little more on purpose.

They are working on it. We’ll see how it goes.

I know what you’re thinking… That will be a great spot to install a big sign right on the “nose” of our property! Unfortunately, that can’t happen here for two reasons:

  • That spot is now a water easement, since there will be water pipes running beneath. You can’t put a sign in a water easement.
  • You can’t install a sign on top of an underground structure like this one.

So, let’s just hope we can smooth it out enough to where it doesn’t look like we have a septic tank as our first impression!
