Chapter 3: Decisive

And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

Jude 22-23 NLT

Here is one of Ray Comforts “Just Witnessing” videos. No direct correlation to these questions, just another great example of lovingly giving the bad news and the good news.

Before getting into the questions for this week, are we praying as a group for “My 3 in 2023?” take a few moments to talk about these three and be praying for God to do a miracle work in their lives.

Thanks again to Susan Farnham for providing our discussion questions for chapter 3 of our book!

Take a few minutes and discuss some of your reasons for being a Christian.

If someone asks you why you believe in God what is your answer?
Do you think it is an effective answer?

Evangelism should be mingled with both love and a healthy fear of God.

-Ray Comfort, Chapter 3

Discuss the statement above, using his cited scripture in Jude and 2 Corinthians (below.)

And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.

Jude 22-23 NLT

Because we understand our fearful responsibility to the Lord, we work hard to persuade others. God knows we are sincere, and I hope you know this, too.

2 Corinthians 5:11 NLT

The Mirror Of The Law

Ask yourself this question as you read the next passage: “Am I truly saved?”

Dear friends, even though we are talking this way, we really don’t believe it applies to you. We are confident that you are meant for better things, things that come with salvation. For God is not unjust. He will not forget how hard you have worked for him and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do. Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

Hebrews 6:9-12 NLT

Take a few minutes to discuss as you need to.

Discuss the method Mr. Comfort uses in approaching one he suspects is a false convert. Cite the Scripture from James (below) used by Mr. Comfort and how it applies in the situation.

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.

James 1:22-25 NLT

Knowledge of God and Knowledge of Self are Intertwined

On page 53, the author sets up relevant questions concerning Matthew 5- the Sermon on the Mount. (The Beatitudes.)

Read the first part of the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-16) and ask the questions from page 53.

When finished, answer the question found on page 55.. “Are you choosing to love the unsaved? Or do you need to look for the Savior for yourself?”
