Dreams die from division, but God gives the opportunity for the person of vision to step up and sieze the decisive moment!

Dreams die from division

Have you had a dream for your life, for your family, that has died, or at least been put on indefinite hold due to division?

What keeps us from confronting these dividing issues?

What is the worst thing that could happen by confronting those issues?

Why do you think we don’t like to say “no” to good things in our lives?

Israel’s Decisive Moment

King Ahab, like his father before him, was an evil king in Israel. During a time of extended famine, Ahab led his people to worship and make sacrifices to Baal, the great weather god, hoping for rain to come. Ahab developed an extensive structure for Baal worship, instituting 450 Baal prophets.

Much like our culture today, the people were confused by all this. They knew they were people of God, yet God didn’t seem to be sending the rain they so badly needed.

Their king, Ahab, was putting Baal worship into place so they could pray for rain to the weather god. Confusion and doubt crept in. The people didn’t know what to believe, who to follow. They became apathetic. They were divided.

It wasn’t until the Godly prophet Elijah stepped in, calling all people to return to worship the One True God, Yahweh. Here is how Elijah expressed a return to the vision of a God-honoring people:

Elijah, 1 Kings 18:20
How much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!

(You should read this story in 1 Kings 18 sometime… It is pretty amazing. And Elijah makes a poop joke!)

Elijah issued a “fire challenge” to Baal, which proved catastrophic to Ahab’s position. Once the people re-caught the vision of who GOD really was, they stepped up and paid the price… In what must have been a very grim and grisly reminder of where other gods get you, they killed all of the Baal prophets in the Kishon Valley.

It was only then, after the people were unified in their trust of God, that God sent the rain.

How is this like our life? What false god do we need to repent from? What Baal prophet do we need to (hopefully symbolically) kill in our lives?

PRAYER REQUESTS: no health and happiness ones tonight, please… instead, who can we pray for that needs to come to know Jesus on Easter Sunday? What will WE as a group DO to be used by God in their lives?
Please pray for our team, for the weather, and for God to speak and move in hearts and minds on Easter Sunday.
