Foolishness on Easter

foolishness

April Fool’s day came and went a few days ago, but I can assure you, there will be foolishness at the Orchard Church this Easter Sunday morning.

I know that many preachers around the world will be preaching wise-sounding messages on Easter, but unfortunately, far too many are preaching the wrong wisdom.

The wisdom of the world says to do better, to get right, to find happiness. A lot of wise-sounding preachers preach this faulty message.

The message of the cross is the opposite. The cross says that He has done better, He has made us right, and He is the source of happiness. We can’t get it, make it, find it, or win it… HE has already done all the work.

Sure, that sounds like the opposite of wisdom.  In fact, Scripture tells us it will be like foolishness to this world.

1 Corinthians 1:18
The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.

The cross means dying to self. It means repentance and faith. It means then end of my old life, and the beginning of something new.

Matthew 10:39
Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

The cross means that you have no hope within yourself, but that Jesus left His throne in heaven to come here and to live, die, and live again to give you that hope. To give you that life. To change you into something completely new.  You can’t. But HE does. That is the message I will be preaching this weekend.

1 Corinthians 1:21
Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.
