[Podcast] Say It Forward

SayIrt

Did you know that you can contribute to God’s purpose and plan here in this world by saying it forward?  Jesus himself told us that we will be his witnesses… Telling the truth about who He is and what He is up to. Today we will look at the story of a simple servant who won by saying it forward.

Lifegroup discussion questions after the jump

Thanks again to Lynsie McDaniel, who provided this week’s questions.

If you’re the discussion leader, be sure to start your group off with prayer. Have everyone open this page on their mobile devices, and lead the group by letting everyone have a chance to ask questions as we progress through this short discussion.

This is our second week in the Say It series and we are talking about the importance and the power of sharing our stories of God’s work in our lives.

Have you ever had a time in your life when you trusted someone else to do something important in your life, but they let you down?  What is that like?

Finish this saying: “If you want something done right, you have to do it ______.” As believers, we say that we “trust God with our lives,” but is that true in practice?

True or False.. We are willing to delegate responsibility for little things, but when it comes to really important things, we take care of those ourselves.  Why is this true or false? How is it true or false in our relationship with God?

Do you remember the servant’s response to being given a huge responsibility?

“But what if I can’t..?”
Genesis 24:5

How did Abraham invest into the faith of the servant?

Abraham shared his “crazy God story.” How did Abraham’s investment affect the servant?  How did the servant’s response change?  How did the servant’s faith change?

When he faced Rebekah’s family, what did the servant do?

Do you remember the response of Rebekah’s brother, Laban?

“The lord has obviously brought you here, so there is nothing we can say. 51Here is Rebekah; take her and go. Yes, let her be the wife of your master’s son, as the lord has directed.”
Genesis 24:50-51

I often share about God’s call on our family to home school. I can honestly say in the two years that we have been living out that calling I have not only considered calling and enrolling my children in a school, but I have Googled boarding schools! I know that sounds really silly, but in the moments of things being hard sometimes we just want them to get WAY easier and as quickly as possible. But living out that calling has also provided some beautiful moments of being able to spend lunch together studying about God with my kids and seeing them learn in ways that I would not have seen if they were in school, and nightly bed times that would not be nearly as sweet if I had sent my 3 and 6 year old to a boarding school in China (yes China is the only place I could find with a boarding school that takes kids that young.)

Sharing these stories can impact people. Do you have any unbelievers in your life that get to see God moving in your story?

If you have had a time where your sharing life with a nonbeliever has changed them, please share those stories with your LifeGroup.

Steve said Sunday “When we tell our crazy God story, He becomes obvious.” Let’s tell our stories and make our God obvious to others. My hope is that during this study our LifeGroups would be a place where we spend sometime sharing some of our God stories and praising Him for them and also a place where we can work on becoming more comfortable sharing them so we can take them out.

And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony,
Revelation 12:11

Remember, as we prepare to be used by God in Saying it Forward, we are having some home work this month leading up to Easter Sunday.

Last week…Think through what Jesus brought you out of. What did he rescue you from? Where did he find you and meet you?

This week….What did Jesus do in your Life? How did you let him in? How did you say yes? Why did you say yes? Who was part of your road salvation?

Week of March 15...How did your journey with Jesus continue? What has changed since your encounter? What moments of assurance and hope has he brought you? What stories can you tell of Jesus living in you in the day to day?

Week of March 22…Share your stories with your group.

Did you like the “Overcome” song we sang on Sunday morning?  We’ll definitely be doing that one again this week.
