Seven Things I Learned (again) at “Easter On The Field”

On Sunday, we had an incredible Easter worship service on the Gilmer High School football field. It was our first-ever attempt to do anything like this.  We set a goal of having 600 people present, and we easily passed that goal with over 630 in attendance!  Everyone seemed to feel that it was a really good way to celebrate the resurrection.  Here are seven reasons why I agree.

Our volunteers are the best

SO many of our people really stepped it up, were out on that field for so much of the weekend, and just plain worked it.  It looked great, felt great, and came off almost without a hitch. It was so good to see all of our volunteers with those genuine smiles on their faces, greeting, hugging, and welcoming everyone there. You guys made the event happen!  Thank you!

The Orchard Church Band rocks

Seriously, many of the studies say people pick a church because of the preaching… But I would definitely come to The Orchard Church just for the music.  These guys braved the pollen, threw in an unexpected song at the last minute, and pulled it all off like pros.

The Weather didn’t just cooperate

Okay, Saturday was just plain soggy, and I wasn’t too sure at first about postponing the Egg Hunt from Saturday to Sunday. But that COULDN’T have been a better call!  It was SO GOOD to have all the kid activities and the egg hunt on Sunday before and after the service… And we literally couldn’t have dreamed up better weather!  Clear blue sky and just warm enough!  Praise the Lord!

The Egg Hunt was better than I expected

How great was it to see all those kids running and playing?  Dianne Fowler, you and your team are just the best.

YOU made the difference by inviting

I’ve been saying it for months… There is nothing that can come close to the power of a personal invitation.  We literally spent HUNDREDS of dollars on those newspaper ads that had the WRONG TIME printed on them, but ZERO people showed up for the wrong time. Sure, we had a few families come at 11 just for the Egg Hunt, but that was because they were present on Saturday and found out that it was being postponed.  YOU, church, did a GREAT job getting the word out.  Thank you for being used by God

God Works through us

Not only did we get the chance to preach the gospel to more people than ever at one time, but we know of quite a few who responded by turning their lives over to Christ!  Worth it!

The Resurrection is the reason

Yep, it happened.  And it changed my life.  I am so grateful that we get to be part of the resurrection’s redemptive work in our community today.
